Ads in newspapers are just one of the ways organizations recruit people (and the approach isn’t a very successful one for the job applicant in my experience). Personal contacts are probably the best way to get an “in” but I think targeted job listings to alumni, career centers, and subscribers to specialty newsletters also yield a higher success rate.
As an alumna of Stanford University and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, I am probably privy to some information on healthcare jobs that you are not. And even if the information is publicly available, it’s hard to sift through everything in your limited time. One of my goals, therefore, is to scan through some of the opportunities in the healthcare industry and highlight those that I think are interesting.
Today’s healthcare job listing is at Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America.
The Women’s Health and Advocacy Department of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, is seeking a graduate student of public health to assist with revising its Healthy Women, Healthy Lives Facilitator’s Guide.
This comprehensive Guide provides substantive health-related educational information that empowers women with the knowledge needed to make informed medical decisions for themselves and their families.
The individual selected for this position will be responsible for including in the Guide a compilation of community resources associated with women and relevant to osteoporosis; heart health; colorectal, breast, ovarian and lung cancer; obesity; stress reduction; sleep deprivation; and eating disorders. Information on how and where to access these resources is essential to the work.
A consulting fee commensurate for this activity is available. Candidates must demonstrate the following qualifications:
- An understanding of health promotion strategies particularly in the areas of prevention and early detection of disease
- Web experience
- Knowledge of community-based resources
- Research experience in women’s health
- The ability to network with other health-focused organizations
- Familiarity with the leading health indicators
This position is based in New York but if the individual has access to the internet etc. they could work from home. I would anticipate their actually having to be in the NY office 3 or 4 times…to go over their progress and an initial meeting.
Please send resume and supporting documentation via e-mail to: dmintz@hadassah.org
Deadline : October 15, 2005
