Ever since I was in grade school, I’ve known I wanted to be involved in the healthcare industry. I took every relevant class I could and got involved in extracurricular activities that would give me the skills I needed. If I had gone to East Haven High School in Connecticut, I wouldn’t have had to look far.
Teacher Nancy Tipping, a former registered nurse, has been teaching health classes for the past ten years. Classes include:
- Medical Careers: Basic Skills
- Medical Careers: Exploration
- Pharmacology
- Nurse Assistant
- Health/Bioscience Intern
- Hospital Volunteer
These are serious classes. Students work full six hour days during the second semester of the nursing class doing internships at area homes and hospitals. Graduates are certified to become nurse assistants and get jobs as soon as they graduate.
As East Haven High School students know, it’s never too early (or too late) to start on your healthcare career.
